Initiated By Leading Home Control Product Manufacturers
The Z-Wave Alliance was established in early 2005 by a group of leading home control product manufacturers to move the then-nascent industry from an uncertain, unspecified future to a present reality.
After years of waiting for technologists to create a true standard to which they could build their products, founding members Intermatic, Leviton, Wayne Dalton, Danfoss, and Universal Electronics met with Z-Wave technology creator Zensys to discuss issues common to all of their needs.
In the view of these market-leading core members, the three biggest obstacles to widespread adoption of home control were:
- Competing, incompatible technologies
- Unfocused, non-converging standardization attempts
- Price
The members then developed products using the Zensys chip technology and immediately recognized both the reliable performance and the broad potential. The home control manufacturers approached Zensys and jointly decided to form the Z-Wave Alliance.
Since its inception, the Z-Wave Alliance has been rapidly gaining momentum in the home control marketplace. Products from our members have won numerous awards, and Z-Wave itself has been honored everywhere from the Wall Street Journal to Readers Digest.
Manufacturers, installers, home builders/remodelers and consumers have all taken notice of the Z-Wave phenomenon. They now have many choices among many independent manufacturers who have joined forces to move home control into the forefront of their industries.
